ABOUT US The Mountain Wanderer was opened in August 1998 by Steve Smith of Lincoln, NH. Steve has been a hiking enthusiast for over 25 years and is the author of several guidebooks as well as co-editor of the AMC White Mountain Guide.
Timmee Whitmore of Thornton, NH, and, occasionally, Richard Curry of Laconia, NH and Mike Dickerman of Littleton, NH staff the store on Steve’s days off. Timmee is an enthusiastic outdoors person, landscaper and book lover, and worked in another area bookstore for a number of years.
Richard is an enthusiastic hiker and if asked will share with you his list of best viewpoints (rated from 1 to 5; Kearsarge North, Mt. Hight and several others are rated 5+) and favorite easy-to-moderate hikes.
Mike is well-known as the author of the popular hiking column, “The Beaten Path,” in the Littleton, NH Courier, and has written and edited a number of books about the White Mountains. He is the owner of Bondcliff Books, a small independent publisher specializing in titles related to the White Mountains. Mike and Bondcliff Books can be contacted at 603-444-0503; PO Box 385, Littleton, NH 03561; or bondclif@ncia.net.
Steve's wife, Carol, who has a real job as a school librarian, is also pressed into service at the store on occasion in the summer. Carol completed her New Hampshire 4000-footers in 2002 and is looking forward to bagging the New England 4's!
Both Steve and Mike have climbed New Hampshire’s 4000-Footers in summer and winter and have “bagged” the New England Hundred Highest. In 2001 they co-authored a guide to the White Mountain 4000-footers. Both are also White Mountain trail adopters and members of the AMC Four Thousand Footer Committee. All of us look forward to sharing our enthusiasm for the White Mountains and the Northeast outdoors with you!
