Wilderness First Aid

wfa_med.gifWFA is designed for outdoor enthusiasts who may find themselves far from immediate medical care, and need to rely on their own skills to survive and thrive if an emergency arrises. This 2-day course teaches the basics of backcountry first aid, including building leg and arm splints, caring for wounds, and recognizing & managing common medical problems, along with rare life-threatening emergencies. Most importantly, WFA teaches how to prevent such issues from occuring on a backcountry trip. After completing the course, you will be given a certification card valid for 2 years.

The Boston H/B Committee requires all its Leaders to be WFA certified. All HB Leaders must re-certify their WFA within 3 years of their first certification, then once every five years after that. H/B sponsors WFA classes in the fall and spring and are taught by SOLO Wilderness Medicine. Boston Chapter H/B leaders and co-leaders may apply for WFA training reimbursment for each WFA certification and re-certification.
